Movable Type 4 was officially released to the public in the last couple of hours.
I upgraded this install about 5 minutes ago without hurting anyone - at least not consciously!
The official announcement gives a lot more information on what the next generation of self-publishing platforms can bring to both personal and business users, so I'd recommend you take a couple of minutes to read what Anil has to say about it all.

By the way, a nice way to speed up Movable Type's interactive bits (control panel, search, comments etc.) turns out to be to enable FastCGI for the virtual server where you're running it.
Also, this blog isn't signed up to use TypePad logins; it's easy to enable, and handy for people who already have one; you can let trusted commenters bypass captchas and so on.
