I would never profess to be an expert in databases. Far from it!

However I know that a lot of people consider PostGres to be a fantastic database engine to work with.

If you fall into that category then you'll be delighted to learn that the guys over in SixApart are adding PostGres support to the next release of Movable Type.

Postgres will be available in RC 2 of Movable Type 4.2, which is due for release at some stage this week.

More information will be available on the official Movable Type site.

Michele - to be clear, MT has had support for Postgres for years and years. What I announced in today's call with the community is that the MT team will have completed its testing of MT 4.2 on postgres, thereby giving postgres users a higher degree of confidence that they can upgrade to 4.2 RC2 without putting their site(s) at risk.

MT has supported Postgres for quite a while now. I used MT with Postgres for a very long time before I moved to SQLite. The recent announcement was simply that 4.2 testing with Postgres had been completed.

Sorry - I picked up the wrong end of the stick completely!
