One of the new features that was added in Movable Type 4 is support for Nokia's Lifeblog

Unfortunately the documentation doesn't really go into any detail on how you should configure the software on your phone to work with this.

On my Nokia N95 the default account settings include the URL to a typepad account. As I'm not using Typepad they obviously aren't of much use to me :)

In order to configure your phone's software you will need to get one piece of essential information from your Movable Type 4 install - your web services password.

To do that you simply click on your username in the upper right hand corner of your Movable Type screen. This will take you to your user's page where you can then choose to reveal your web services password.

On your phone you will need to enter the following information:

  • Account Name - this is for your own use, so you can set it to anything you like
  • Username - your movable type username ie. the one you use to login and post
  • Password - this is your web services password (see above) NOT your Movable Type password
  • Server Address - this should be the URL to your blog's atom.cgi/weblog eg. http://www.yourblog.com/cgi-bin/mt/mt-atom.cgi/weblog/ - don't worry about the fact that mt-atom.cgi is a file and not a directory
  • Internet Access Point - your chosen method of getting online.
  • Optimise images - Speaks for itself

Once you've configured your phone correctly you should be able to use it to post articles to any of your blogs running MovableType4.

If like me you have multiple blogs installed on the one backend you can choose which one you want to post to when posting.

The system works quite well, though you may want to edit images later on, as they tend to get posted as full size (or close to it)

Enjoy!

(with thank to this blog post which helped with the settings!)

» Using Ecto with MovableType 4 from Max Clark

I've been scratching my head for a couple of days now trying to figure out how to integrate Ecto with MovableType 4. Admittedly I wasn't trying to hard to figure this problem out with everything else going on recently.... Read More

Hey

Thanks for the guide, i have just set up my movable type site, using: Movable Type Personal version 4.1. However when i insert the details as above into the phone (n95) i get a message saying that no blogs could be found for any accounts. I dont know what ive done wrong/what im missing :(

I read that for older versions of mt you need to modify the atomserver.pm file before you can post using lifeblog, is this the case on mt personal 4.1?

I'd appreciate any advice on this.
